We are so thankful to share our passion for honeybees and sheep with our visitors. Our family Apiary is located in the beautiful hills of Clark County Kentucky and provides a perfect setting for millions of our bees to pollinate the wildflowers and fields for our sheep to graze upon. This unique combination allows us to offer the highest quality lamb, honey, and bee’s wax products for our customers.
Curt’s exposure to Beekeeping goes back many years to his Grandpa Kenny’s back yard hives in Peoria, Illinois. Our apiary started the first hives in 2009 and extracted honey using Kenny’s hand cranked green, three-frame extractor that was built in the early 1950’s. We have continued to expand our Apiary every year and generally keep between 20-30 colonies in their trademark “Blewe” hives. The majority of our colonies are bees that have been safely removed from people’s homes and relocated preserving their ability to pollinate the world around them rather than be exterminated.
Lauren’s gentle nature and love of animals makes her the perfect head shepherd for our flock of Katahdin sheep. Our original flock of 10 sheep has quickly grown to 35. These hair sheep are very well mannered and have provided our family with many hours of entertainment. Early spring lambing season is one of the most exciting times of year for our 2 children as they look forward to picking out the perfect names for our new baby lambs. Our door is always open to new visitors who wish to learn about the beautiful coexistence of animals and to see how well these animals are treated as they grow up at the Blewegrass Apiary.
